Position Description:
The Quantitative Data Analysis Graduate Assistant (GA) will report to the Digital Scholarship Commons Manager and will work with a team of staff, librarians, developers, and graduate assistants to provide support for student learning and digital exploration.
Candidate Profile:
The successful candidate will provide technical support for undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines, focusing on applications related to data analysis, data visualization, and related programming languages. Tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Offering one-on-one support for students who are working with applications, including but not limited to:
- RStudio
- Excel
- Tableau
- Python and similar tools/languages.
- Delivering workshops and creating new activities on tools and concepts related to data analysis and visualization, including integrating where appropriate AI and GenAI tools and techniques.
- Creating instructional documentation.
- Promote data analysis, data visualization and research consultation services to the graduate student society as well as potentially interested faculties and departments.
The ideal candidate for this position will:
- Be currently enrolled in a Master’s or Doctoral Program at the University of Victoria.
- Have significant experience with R, RStudio, Tableau, MS Excel, and at least some experience with Python, and related data analysis and visualization tools.
- Be knowledgeable about statistical concepts and techniques.
- Be interested in helping others to develop their technical skills.
- Have some previous experience tutoring, training, or teaching.
- Be able to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Duration:
The position is available for up to 8/hrs per week, starting in September 2026 and ending in December 2026 with the possibility for renewal until the end of March 2027. Hours can be flexible to accommodate your class schedule.
Salary: $34.72 + 4% vacation pay

The UVic Libraries’ Digital Scholarship Commons (DSC) is a new facility that provides students with enhanced access to software, hardware, and expertise to support digital scholarship. The DSC serves students from all disciplines, with a special focus on graduate students, and will act as a hub for students to come together to share knowledge and to collaborate. The DSC employs specialists from different disciplines to support data analysis and visualization, mapping, media editing, virtual reality, and other areas of high demand.
