Berte Fraser and Tini Hayden are residents living in the Berwick Royal Oak Retirement Community. Over a cup of coffee, the two decided to sell ribbons and knitted Ukrainian flags to fellow residents. The ribbons can be pinned onto the resident’s name tags, while the flags can be displayed on their doors. Their efforts raised $24,000 which has been donated to the Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The church revealed that a benefactor family was willing to match the donation, doubling the amount to $48,000.
