The original work, Digital Communitas, was constructed by a team of researchers.

As stated, Communitas’ mission is to:

Investigate interactions between digital and academic publics

Provide a training ground for composition instructors and scholars to learn multimodal and digital pedagogy

Analyze areas such as gender, race, class, communication, digital theory, and more

The Communitas Audience

Communitas is an open resource for anyone to use. Communitas primarily explores concepts and theories that are on the digital horizon in the realm of education and social media, however interested users outside of the education and social media spheres are welcome to join in on the discussion. Think of this as an interactive learning area, where there is a community pursuing collective learning. Site discussion should be constructive and encourage all users to pursue learning.

Through exploring and equipping the integration of digital tech into learning environments, this project includes but is not limited to: students and educators from many streams and disciplines (such as universities and colleges, secondary and elementary schools; the social and natural sciences, humanities, arts streams), bloggers, information technologists, software developers, and more broadly, anyone who uses social media and digital spaces. Digital learning has become part of many people’s lives, whether for professional or personal ends. This site has been designed with this diverse community of users in mind, welcoming users from many walks of life to find this site useful to their own interests and needs.

Editing Practice

Each post is edited by Dr. Sara Humphreys for style and content. Interviews on the YouTube channel have been edited in collaboration with Randy Lawrence, Digital Communitas’ video and digital editor. The content of the interviews that have been received by email have not been changed. The content of what interviewees have said has not been tampered with in the audio or video.

Previously on Digital Communitas, there was no formal style for source citations. To maintain academic integrity, Communitas will require all posts that are submitted to this site to have an appropriate references list written in APA, Chicago, or MLA format. Selected style guides for your convenience may be available here.

Communitas Acknowledgements

UVic Territory Acknowledgement – We acknowledge with respect the Lekwungen peoples on whose traditional territory the university stands and the Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.

The individuals who participated in this project have helped others immensely by sharing expertise and insights.

Digital Communitas Acknowledgements

Digital Communitas was funded through 2013 by Trent University’s Instructional Development Centre and awarded by Trent’s Research Office.
