“Cartographies of Interruption and Influence: Feminist Educational Strategies in Museums in Response to Gender-Based Violence” was held at the Merano Women’s Museum, Italy, 24–27 August 2025. Over four days, participants presented their stories and strategies and participated in large and small group discussions. Two workshops were facilitated on body mapping and creative fiction writing. Participants were also taken on a feminist city tour and welcomed to the Merano/Meran by government officials at an evening reception.
Participants and presenters came from Austria, Canada, Croatia, Scotland, England, Serbia, Germany, Italy, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Ireland, Korea, Mexico, Zambia and the United States (via zoom). The topics ranged from transnational resistance against feminicides, to women’s remembrance in times of insurgency, to structural violence, to reproductive rights, to judicial injustice, to feminist approaches to museum education. Collaborative sessions allowed participants to discuss challenges and potentials, explore institutional strategies, and design future initiatives through group work and publications. The workshop concluded with reflective discussions on key topics for future work including research, publications, and other creative strategies such as object storytelling workshops.
