{"id":500,"date":"2017-06-01T15:53:39","date_gmt":"2017-06-01T22:53:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/coastalfieldarch\/?page_id=500"},"modified":"2022-06-30T07:53:21","modified_gmt":"2022-06-30T14:53:21","slug":"where-we-are-working","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/coastalfieldarch\/where-we-are-working\/","title":{"rendered":"Come visit us in the field in 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Usually, we encourage visitors to witness the joint Tseshaht-UVic-Parks Canada\u00a0excavation on Keith Island but given COVID protocols, we will have more selective procedures on site.<\/p>\n<p>We are\u00a0<strong>only able to host site tours during the\u00a0following times<\/strong>: between 1:30-2:30 between July 9-20.\u00a0Please note: We will have a possible \u2018day off\u2019 during that time period so please be advised and check with the Tseshaht\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/717901234937185\/\">BeachKeepers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first half of the project our fieldwork will focus on\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><i>K<\/i><\/span><i>a<\/i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><i>k<\/i><\/span><i>ma<\/i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><i>k<\/i><\/span><i>imilh<\/i> (Keith Island) in the centre of the Broken Group Islands &#8211; this is one of the many\u00a0ancestral sites in Tseshaht homelands. This\u00a0village\u00a0was occupied full time up until the 1940s and was a location where several\u00a0older\u00a0Tseshaht community members grew up and regularly visited before the surrounding archipelago\u00a0became a national park reserve in the 1970s.<\/p>\n<p>For the latter half of the\u00a0project at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bamfieldmsc.com\">Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/huuayaht.org\">Huu-ay-aht territory<\/a>, we will be working in Huu-ay-aht\u00a0territory and\u00a0visiting some of their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/huuayaht.org\/services\/language-culture\/culture-history\/\">ancestral places<\/a>\u00a0including the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pc.gc.ca\/apps\/dfhd\/page_nhs_eng.aspx?id=1870\">Kiix\u0294in Village and Fortress National Historic Site of Canada<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To learn\u00a0a bit more about Huu-ay-aht\u00a0language and culture, please visit their very detailed and\u00a0helpful <a href=\"https:\/\/huuayaht.org\/services\/language-culture\/\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Usually, we encourage visitors to witness the joint Tseshaht-UVic-Parks Canada\u00a0excavation on Keith Island but given COVID protocols, we will have more selective procedures on site.
