Jade Skye is a Master’s student with Colin Goldblatt’s research group and is co-supervised by Dr. Joe Melton with Environment and Climate Change Canada. Her project focuses on the prediction of peat depth globally using machine learning, with the goal of producing a depth map that can be used in Earth System Models and peatland carbon stock estimates. Her undergraduate degree was a combined major of visual arts and computer science. She also has previous work experience developing data visualization software for the Canadian Land Surface Scheme Including Biogeochemical Cycles (CLASSIC) model, among other research technical support tasks. In her research, she workings with the UVic Earth System Climate model to investigate the environmental impacts of widespread implementation of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion, a form of marine renewable energy.
