Julia Horne

Julia is a PhD candidate in Colin Goldblatt’s group, and an Earth systems modeller focusing on long-term surface chemical changes recorded in the geologic record. Julia researches how the Earth has changed over expansive geologic timespans, on the order of millions of years, particularly with respect to how the biosphere has modified the atmosphere, geosphere, and climate. For her dissertation, she developed a new biogeochemical evolutionary model for the Earth’s surface since the Archean. She is currently adapting that model to include climate feedbacks producing Snowball Earth glaciations, to better constrain how those events relate to major changes in atmospheric oxygen, methane, and carbon dioxide. Julia completed a BA in Geology and Astronomy at Colgate University.
