I am interested in how the experience of a brain injury can create long-term effects on cognitive health and the development of neurodegenerative diseases. In particular, I focus on the relationship between concussion history and Alzheimer’s disease (AD), with an emphasis on detecting and identifying changes that may appear before the onset of clinical symptoms. My work focuses on how individuals with a history of concussion perform on a three-dimensional multiple object tracking (3D-MOT) task, and how this performance relates to early AD biomarkers. Using cognitive assessments, neuroimaging (MRI), and fluid samples (plasma and saliva), my goal is to identify the ways concussions can influence AD risk, allowing for early detection, intervention, and healthier aging.
