CIVE 448 – for Chemistry students! Spring 2025

CIVE 448 – Drinking Water Contaminants – Chemistry, Toxicology and Greener Interventions (20555)

Newly Chemistry Specific Section in 4th year elective for Chemistry Undergraduate Students:

Instructor: Dr. Luiz Da Silva Correa
Spring 2025, 10:00-11:20 M Th Ell 160

This course is centered around a final team design project that resembles a consulting opportunity, proposing interventions in the life cycle of trace metals in drinking water to protect human health and the environment. We will cover chemistry in water with a focus on metals, drinking water treatment technologies, toxicology, materials flow and life-cycle thinking, regulations, and an understanding of function in an industrial process. All assignments in the course are designed to feed your knowledge and understanding to better prepare you for your design project.

4th year Chemistry Undergraduates are eligible to enroll in this course with permission of the instructor. The prerequisite of CIVE 310 will be waived and this course can be counted as a Chem-400 level lecture course by substitution. Women in Science Peer Mentorship Program

We have officially opened applications for our Fall mentorship program. This is a call to students at all stages—from eager undergraduates to seasoned graduate students. Undergrads, regardless of year, and first or second-year grad students can join as mentees, while upper-year undergrads and all grad students can offer their insights as mentors. Our goal is simple: to pair individuals who can grow and learn from each other, enriching their academic and personal journeys.

Our program focuses on supporting women in science, but it is open to all students at UVic. It’s a great opportunity to seek or offer guidance and make meaningful connections that last beyond our campus.

Students can directly apply here: https://www.uvicwomeninscience.com/pmp.

Thank you for helping us build a stronger community!
