2021 Climate Solutions Challenge

Wondering how to do your part in helping fight climate change? Do you have innovative ideas that could drive meaningful change on and off campus? If so, we want to hear from you!

Enter the 2021 Climate Solutions Challenge and have a chance to win cash prizes and the opportunity to pitch your idea to UVic leadership.

What is the Challenge?

The 2021 Climate Solutions Challenge is a campus-wide contest for actionable climate ideas by and for the UVic community and beyond. The purpose of the challenge is to inspire dialogue and build concrete plans of action that will change our community for the better.

In 2021 the Challenge will invite, help develop and award promising proposals in two main categories:

Looking Past COVID to Climate
Measuring and Managing for Climate

2021 Spring Workshop and AGM – Biodiversity in Soils: Environmental, Social, and Economic Effects

DATE: Saturday, March 6, 2021

Thank you for your interest in the 2021 Spring Workshop and AGM! We will be featuring soil scientists and experts from many disciplines discussing key issues related to Diversity in Soils: Environmental, Social, and Economic benefits in a changing world.

Registration

Registration cost will be $15 for students and $50 for non-students. The price includes registration and a PRSSS annual membership for 2021/2022. The 2022/2022 membership registration cycle lasts from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

Student Poster Competition

The PRSSS is accepting submissions for its annual Student Poster Competition with cash prizes. The competition is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Posters presentations will be held using zoom breakout rooms and will be viewed during the lunch break.

Art Bomke Undergraduate Student Award in Soil Science

The Pacific Regional Society of Soil Science in partnership with the Y.P. Heung Foundation awards an undergraduate student on the merits of:

Academic achievement
Leadership and community service
Communication skills
Letters of recommendation

The Art Bomke Undergraduate Student Award in Soil Science. One award of $3000. Please follow the application guidelines HERE .

STEM Research Symposium

Women in Science Symposium, March 8-12, 2021

Students and post-docs are encouraged to present their research in either poster, short video, or oral form. There will also be a science communication workshop on Thursday March 11.
