Welcome to Picturing Cemeteries!
Here I will be documenting burial monuments in the Emanu-el congregation Cemetery in Victoria BC. My project is to choose monuments with hard to read inscriptions and perform Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) photography on them.
I am choosing stones that we are in danger of losing the inscription completely as a means of conservation, and monuments with illegible inscriptions and motifs that we can try to rediscover what is nolonger visible due to environmental damage and degradation.
I will be looking at the existing historical records in conjunction with the images produced, and will be adding my research to a previously existing project, documenting the cemetery.
