WOW &#8230;. and deserving of &#8230; <em><strong>ALL CAPS<\/strong><\/em>! <span style=\"color: #ff00ff\"><em><strong>NOVEMBER &#8230; ALREADY<\/strong><\/em><\/span>? This semester has gone both fast and slow &#8230; at the same time! And that sums up the entire year too!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This post will mostly be a summary with a few teasers about what might be coming up soon in CALL and elsewhere. It has been a very busy semester and quite the varied usage in CALL too! CALL has been around since September of 1989.&nbsp; That is NOT a typo &#8211; since 1989! And so many new and different uses just in this semester alone! And a bit of a list below in very rough chronological order! And the photos will be in a gallery at the end of this post.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/humanities\/linguistics\/undergraduate\/programs\/american-sign-language-certficate\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">American Sign Language<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> (ASL) Orientation to start the year!&nbsp; Very successful on many accounts &#8211; they meet their Instructors (<span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/news\/topics\/2020+asl-translator-nigel-howard+news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nigel<\/a><\/strong><\/span> &amp; Tim!), they find CALL so that they know WHERE their quizzes, midterms and Final exams will be and discover it is a drop-in location for them too! Thanks Sandra! Good luck to all the students with their studies! Only the 2nd IN PERSON training since returning to UVic! And lots of prizes were won &#8211; see my last post <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/callmebog\/2022\/09\/28\/chd-jeopardy-all-staff-training-september-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/calendar\/future\/undergrad\/index.php#\/courses\/HJuQcezhS?group=Pacific%20and%20Asian%20Studies%20(PAAS)&amp;bc=true&amp;bcCurrent=PAAS128%20-%20Introduction%20to%20Korean%20I&amp;bcGroup=Pacific%20and%20Asian%20Studies%20(PAAS)&amp;bcItemType=courses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">PAAS<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> Korean Chat Cafe<\/span><\/strong><\/a> <\/span>is back in full force too! What a perfect blend of location, technology and amazing Instructors! Students get to chat with real live Koreans during their scheduled class time! Thanks Jaerang!<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">All kinds of Linguistics quizzes and mid-terms<\/span><\/strong> and later on this semester, <em><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">ANOTHER<\/span><\/strong><\/em> <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/callmebog\/2022\/04\/13\/call-poster-session-plus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Linguistics Poster Session<\/a><\/strong><\/span> as well! Last year, that event was the genesis of the idea to have <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/callmebog\/2022\/05\/04\/call-dual-monitors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dual monitors in CALL<\/a><\/strong><\/span>! Thanks for the idea, Sandra! Fortunately, I was able to reuse some older tech destined for recycling &#8211; dongles, monitors and cables from Heather at HSD and with Tomoyo&#8217;s help, setup ALL the computers in CALL with DUAL MONITORS for <a href=\"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/callmebog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7545 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/callmebog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/219\/2022\/06\/BOG-BLOG-Opus-Page.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"334\" height=\"280\"><\/a>literally ZERO COST (just my &#8216;CALL Time&#8217;) and avoid shredding this older tech! YAY PAGES!<\/li>\n<li>A Global Community Workshop, 2 sessions over 2 weeks helped international Business students navigate hiring and improving their resumes.<\/li>\n<li>Italian quizzes and exams! <span style=\"color: #ff00ff\"><strong>YAY ESTELLE<\/strong><\/span>!<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/humanities\/hispanicitalian\/newsevents\/colloquium\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hispanic &amp; Italian Studies Annual Colloquium<\/a><\/strong><\/span> including a <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/humanities\/hispanicitalian\/assets\/docs\/mond%C3%A9jar-poster.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spanish Lansdowne Lecture<\/a><\/strong><\/span> &#8211; a FIRST for The CALL Facility! And a Spanish Writing Workshop too! Quite the combination of new events hosted in CALL! I take cover under my desk and &#8230;. I am usually the only one who DOES participate! UVic has a great <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/services\/emergency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Emergency Planning<\/a><\/strong><\/span> site too! And the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/services\/emergency\/emergency-procedures\/earthquake\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>Earthquake &amp; Tsunami site is here<\/strong><\/span><\/a>! Check it out!<\/li>\n<li>All sorts of <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/systems\/about\/academic\/helpdesk\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Computer Help Desk<\/a><\/strong><\/span> Pop-Up Tents for Orientation and most recently, Phishing Awareness. AND in the very near future, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>this November<\/em><\/span>, CALL will be used for <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/systems\/support\/informationsecurity\/phishing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Phishing Awareness Training<\/a><\/strong><\/span>! The <a href=\"https:\/\/onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca\/phishbowl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>OAC Phish Bowl is here<\/strong><\/span><\/a>! It has been about 3 years (pre-Covid) since CALL hosted this prestigious exam! Looking forward to it!
