“The pandemic and starting my first year of University brought some challenges and successes. Navigating through these unprecedented times meant that I had to adapt and learn how to manage school from on online platform. My artifact is a picture I had taken during a stressful time of school. I was preparing for an online exam, but was not adequately prepared with how to navigate through it. The result of this was that my desk had over a dozen pages, sticky notes, and piles of books. This picture also highlights the struggle of separating the home space from school.”

Here, my desk appears chaotic with the many pages scattered around. This depicts the imbalance I was struggling with at the beginning of the pandemic.

The chaos of what is seen on the desk stresses the importance of balancing and separating school from home. At home students should be able to take their mind off school and be able to feel like it is their safe space. With online school this boundary is broken and requires a different strategy to cope with the new changes. Over the past two years I have learned how to be more organized and adapt. Furthermore, through meeting with the CAC I was able to learn effective strategies to strike this balance.

Teaching strategies

Navigating through the hybrid online and in-person format has certainly been an adventure. As a student, I have found that I learn best when professors engage with the class. This usually takes a variety of forms such as allowing students to ask questions in between lessons, or encouraging the use of their office hours.
