Title: Beyond the Gist: Reduced Retrieval Demands Reveal Perceptually Specific Associative Memories in Aging
Abstract:
Memories can vary in their level of detail, ranging from more gist-like to perceptually specific representations. Prior research suggests that older adults’ memories are predominantly gist-like. However, most studies examining memory specificity have done so using explicit tasks (e.g., old/new recognition) which pose high controlled retrieval demands. In this talk, I will present our use of an implicit-based measure to test whether explicit retrieval demands contribute to this apparent age-related loss of memory specificity.
The talk will be in person in the Psychology Reading room, COR A228, from 3:00 – 4:30.
