Optical Tweezers

September 2022 – May 2023

About the Project

Project Overview:

The Biomedical Engineering Design Club (BMED) designed Optical Tweezers to trap and manipulate nanoparticles. Optical Tweezers have many bioloigcal applications and they are a low cost and easy to produce device that can increase research accessibilty. BMED was responsible for modifying a DVD-RW drive optical pickup to trap particles, desigining the electromagnetic stage for precise manipulation, and integrating machine learning to improve protein classification of the aquired opitcal data from samples.

The project began in September of 2022 and ended in April of 2023.
