October 2021 – June 2022

About the Project

Project Overview:

The opioid epidemic is an ongoing medical crisis. The Acoustic Breathing Analyzer is a device designed to assist first responders in detecting asphyxiation caused by opioid overdose.

The device is low cost, incomplex and portable, allowing it to be accessible for those who need it. It is comprised of a laryngophone, an embedded system to transduce breathing signals, and a software algorithm to detect breathing rate.

The Acoustic Breathing Analyzer has completed prototyping and was a finalist in the 2022 MDDC Awards for Excellence in Biomedical Engineering Student Design & Innovation.
