Research Help Survey (5 x $20 OneCard credit)

Students who attend a Research Help appointment with a librarian will be sent a survey to provide feedback on their experience. Survey respondents will be entered to win one of five $20 OneCard credits.

Podcast contest (2 x $500 cash prize)

The student podcast contest is intended to recognize and celebrate high-quality work being created by UVic students in the world of podcasting. Students of all disciplines and faculties may post one episode of up to 90 minutes in length. Two podcasts will win a $500 cash prize.

On the Verge Spoken Word and Writing contest (4 x $250 first prizes, 4 x $150 second prizes)

On the Verge writing and spoken word contest showcases and celebrates emerging UVic student voices under an annual theme of equity, diversity, and human rights. Students can submit pieces in one of four categories: poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and spoken word. A first and a second prize will be awarded for each category, and winning submissions will be published in UVicSpace.

The Faculty of Science, in partnership with the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, is working to revive UVic’s student chapter of AISES, a student club that aims to bring together Indigenous students to connect, network, and support each other. AISES is also open to Indigenous allies who wish to support Indigenous students in STEM.

We will be hosting an AISES Meet & Greet session on Monday, Nov. 20 at 3:30 p.m. in the Math & Stats Assistance Centre (with pizza!) to help bring together folks who are interested in joining AISES.

UVic’s 90-second elevator PitchIt competition is coming up on Thursday, November 23rd at 4:00 PM. The top five pitches will walk away with cash prizes, and the first-place winner can seize up to $1000!, and it is an excellent opportunity to practice pitching and build your network. Applications are due on Monday, November 20th, at 4:00 PM.

Calling all students interested in water and environmental research,

We are currently recruiting students to join the organizing committee for the upcoming Water & Environment Student Talks Conference (WEST-Con) 2024.

WEST-Con is an interdisciplinary conference organized by students for students working within the fields of water and environment. In the past two years, WEST-Con was held in a virtual/hybrid format to facilitate student participation nationally and internationally. This format has seen over 300 participants from 16 countries, creating a global community among student researchers.

We invite students from all faculties to join the multi-disciplinary Organizing Committee for WEST-Con 2024. Subcommittees include: Finance, Communications, Publicity, Logistics, and Content. A brief overview of the roles and responsibilities for each subcommittee can be found in the linked form shared below.

Carleton University’s Department of Health Sciences offers an innovative and exciting opportunity for graduate studies in health sciences.

The Master of Science in Health: Science, Technology and Policy (HSTP) is a unique 6-credit graduate program. The program places an emphasis on skill acquisition, using problem-based approaches to understand health issues and sectors, and participation in collaborative interdisciplinary research projects. The program design is facilitated by the cohort model, which allows for collaboration between students from various academic backgrounds to improve their understanding of complex problems in the broad field of health.

This year we are offering a new distinctive option in the MSc in HSTP program.  Incoming students will have a choice between the Research Pathway and the Practicum Pathway.   Those in the Research Pathway would participate in an Interdisciplinary Health Research Project, a multi-stakeholder and disciplinary graduate-level research project. Research is supervised by faculty researchers and completed in collaboration with external partners (e.g. government, corporate, or community health institutions).  The Practicum Pathway is a new stream that allows students to gain work experience by completing practicum placement(s) at appropriate organization(s) (e.g. public health unit, provincial or federal governmental agency or non-governmental organization).
