Canadian Income Tax Webinar for international students

In response to international students’ needs, International Centre for Students and the Gustavson School of Business (GSB) International will host an Canadian income tax session specifically for our international students.

Details regarding tax preparation clinics available to support students in filing their tax returns will be shared soon.

Remember – international student advisers (ISA) are available for virtual/phone and in-person drop-in hours weekdays between 2:00pm-4:00pm (PT). To meet with an ISA for a short virtual/phone appointment (10 minutes), phone ICS (+1 250 721 6361) starting at 1:30pm (PT) for a same-day drop-in appointment. To meet with an ISA for a short in-person appointment, come to the ICS office (JC Centre B202d) starting at 1:30pm. Students meet with an ISA on a first-come, first-served basis.

Funding Opportunities for International Experiences

Thinking of adding an international experience to your degree program at UVic?

Did you know that you may be eligible to receive funding for your international exchange, co-op, work study or field school?

International Mobility Access Grant (IMAG)

The International Mobility Access Grant (IMAG) aims to reduce barriers for students with a disability, Indigenous students and low-income students to access and participate in UVic’s international mobility programs and strengthen their global skills.

Value: Up to $10,000
Open to: Indigenous students, students with a disability and low-income students who are also current UVic undergraduate students and either Canadian citizens or permanent residents
Next deadline: February 15, 2023

Student International Activities Fund (SIAF) 

The Student International Activities Fund (SIAF) is intended to assist UVic students with their participation in unpaid, international learning activities.

Value: $500

  • Asia Undergraduate Supplement: $1,000
  • Asia Graduate Supplement: $5,000

Open to: Full-time undergraduate and graduate students
Next deadline: March 15, 2023 
(3 competitions per year – March, July and November)

Nimrod Hungarian Mobility Award

The Nimrod Hungarian Mobility Award (Nimrod) helps UVic students participate in international learning activities taking place at accredited universities in Hungary.

Value: Varies
Open to: Full-time undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate students
Next deadline: March 15, 2023
(2 competitions per year – March & November) .

One World International Scholarship

The One World International Scholarship is awarded to students participating in study, or work-abroad programs.

Value: $2,000-$5,000
Open to: Full-time undergraduate and graduate students who are also either Canadian citizens or permanent residents and residents of BC
Next deadline: March 15, 2023

Premier’s International Scholarship 

The Premier’s International Scholarship is awarded to students participating in study, or work-abroad programs.

Value: $8,000-$12,000
Open to: Full-time undergraduate and graduate students who are also either Canadian citizens or permanent residents and residents of BC
Next deadline: April 20, 2023 

Mitacs Globalink Research Award

The Mitacs Globalink Research Award (GRA) provides funding for senior undergraduate and graduate students to conduct a 12- to 24-week research project at universities outside of Canada.

Value: Up to $6,000
Open to: Full-time, senior undergraduate and graduate students
Next deadline: Applications accepted on a rolling basis

2023 Deertrails Naturalist Program in the Clearwater River Valley and Cortes Island

The Land Conservancy of BC is pleased to announce the organization will be hosting two sessions of the Deertrails Naturalist Program in 2023 which will explore the beauty and brilliance of Cortes Island (April 25 to 30) and the Clearwater River Valley (April 18 to 23). Aspiring naturalists can apply online at www.conservancy.bc.ca/deertrails. Application deadline is Friday, February 24. Bursaries are available.
