JOB DESCRIPTION
Do you love Instagram and TikTok? Do you love creating or appearing in videos? We want to put student voices at
the centre of UVic social media accounts and we want your help.
The UVic Social Media Ambassadors are a small group of students who create high quality and creative content for
UVic’s social media channels. The SM Ambassadors will report to Social Media Coordinator in University
Communications + Marketing at UVic.
Primarily, you will work independently, but we will also have opportunities to collaborate with fellow team
members on assignments, brainstorming sessions and workshops.
Each SM Ambassador will have a different role that is tailored to their skills, talent and passions. We are looking for
people with existing digital media skills including experience with video, photography, Instagram takeovers, creating
TikToks, writing, design, being a social media influencer etc.
The content you create will be a mix of assigned content and ideas you come up with during brainstorm sessions.
The content will focus on showcasing the UVic Edge brand including research impact, hands on experience,
extraordinary academic environment and the community. Content will also include student and campus life.
The ideal SM Ambassadors is:
• A current UVic student in good academic standing
• Ready to become a public ambassador for UVic
• Already an active social media or digital content creator
• Able to work independently and in a group setting
• Keen to share UVic-related stories, attend UVic events and/or share about UVic on their own personal
channels
• Able to commit to creating content on a regular basis
• Available for monthly creative meetings with UC+M staff and other ambassadors
• Able to use their own computer, smart phone or other equipment to create content
Public personal social media platforms of successful SM Ambassadors should reflect conduct that respects
the non-academic misconduct policy, UVic harassment and discrimination policy and all other relevant UVic
policies.

COMPENSATION
Each SM Ambassador will be compensated $19.50 per hour. We anticipate about 5 hours of work per week or less.

HOW TO APPLY

piece by January 13, 2021 at 11:59 pm.
In addition to the online application, applicants should create a piece of digital content or a creative piece that
answers this question: What would you tell your family or closest friend about your UVic experience?
This creative assignment should show and tell us a bit about what your areas of expertise are and should not take
more than 1-2 hours to create. Examples may be a video, series of photos with captions, digital artwork, a video of
an Instagram takeover, etc. After completing your online submission, please submit your creative piece by email
to: socialmedia@uvic.ca with the subject line: SM Ambassador (Your Full Name)
Each candidate’s content will be reviewed and a follow-up interview for selected candidates will conclude the hiring
process. In order to be considered, your online application and creative piece must be submitted.

UVic Career Services Mock MMIs – Jan 15, 22 and Feb 26

  • The sessions include taking part in interview scenarios and receiving feedback/coaching
  • Students and Alumni need to have received a letter/email inviting them to an MMI style interview to be eligible to participate
  • Our group Mock MMIs will be held on Zoom on Fri Jan 15th, Fri Jan 22nd, and Fri Feb 26th
  • There are no charges for these sessions
  • Individual practice sessions (one-on-one Mock MMI scenarios) may be arranged if the group sessions are full or have already taken place
