The Division of Medical Sciences is offering two exciting new courses in Spring 2020:

Course description : In line with the One Health Initiative, Animals & Human Health is a limited enrollment, seminar-style undergraduate course.
This course uses recent peer-reviewed journal articles to discuss emerging topics, current controversies, and future directions at the intersection of animals, humans, and the environment. Students may choose some of the discussion topics. Weekly topics may include zoonotic diseases, environmental impact on animal & human health, research with animals, animals in service and entertainment, the human-animal bond, animals as sentinels, animals as food, and animals in culture. The popular press will form a component of the discussion. A mid-term exam, oral presentation, participation, online learning, quizzes, and a final project will be used to complete the marking scheme. This course is ideal for those interested in any aspect involving animal or human healthcare.

MEDS 487 – Advanced Topics in Motor, Perceptual, and Cognitive Neuroscience (CRN 23965): https://web.uvic.ca/calendar2019-09/CDs/MEDS/487.html
Course content: MEDS 487 is intended to provide students with fundamental knowledge in motor, perceptual, and cognitive neuroscience.
The course will rely on a combination of textbook and article readings combined with class discussion to ensure learning. Advanced topics will be covered and current research will be the focus of learning.
