Yes, it has taken me over three years to finally get around to contributing to the U Vic B.Ed, where are they now, page. Better late than never, I suppose! It has been a busy three and half years for me professionally and personally. After graduating from U Vic I moved back to my home town of Burns Lake (SD 91), where some of the best teachers in the province get their start! My wife and I bought a house and have had two children. Evangeline is three and Nelson is one. In my first year of teaching I accepted a limited duration, full time position in the rural neighboring community of Granisle, teaching Math and Science to grades seven through twelve. At the time this school had thirty one students from kindergarten to grade twelve. The following year I took a continuing District TOC position in Burns Lake. District TOC’s in SD 91 are guaranteed full time work and I was placed at the local high school in January, again teaching Math and Science. The following year I took a continuing position at Lakes District Secondary and have been teaching Math, PE, English, Volleyball, and Science here since. School District 91 has been a great place to work; I have had a ton of support from the staff in each school that I have worked in and see lots of opportunity for advancement in the district. I often remember how much fun the B.Ed program was at U Vic, and when my kids are crying at four o’clock in the morning and I still have to go teach the next day I think, I wish I could go back to university. 2025 update: I am vice principal at Lakes District Secondary, Burns Lake!
