After completing my practicum at Clayton Heights in Surrey BC, I got hired by the Langley School District for a new position defined as a “term TTOC.” This was a 1.0 contact for the year securing TTOC’s, however with the mass shortage of teacher those of us hired for this position soon got sent to various schools for contracts. Originally I was sent to a middle school in Langley to teach French and Humanities 8; talk about panic when someone expects you to teach French and your teachable subjects are English and PHE! I was thankful for the opportunity however, I found a 1.0 PE and Planning position that I thought suited me better at DW Poppy Secondary School. The school immediately felt like home, and I knew I made the right choice. By the end of October I received a continuing contract at this school, and officially can call Poppy home for years to come. I am now currently teaching Math, PHE and Social Studies and could not be happier- retrospectively I reflect and see that what once made me feel uncomfortable is actually what I enjoy most now; teaching something new! I am thoroughly enjoying the challenge of teaching Math as I get to  connect with students in a entirely new way! Overall, I think it is safe to say I am enjoying the teacher life and am very thankful for the opportunities I have been given this past year!
