Since graduating from U VIC in 2009 I took my talents back home to White Rock to teach at my old high school Elgin Park Secondary. After the returning home hero ceremony I envisioned didn’t take place I knew I needed to get back down to work. My first year I taught Bases, Socials, ESL and was a career counsellor. Hold the jokes please.
The next year I decided to channel my inner Paul Hayes and took off to England to see what the workout equipment was like. I managed to find a side job as a full time math teacher. Luckily for me the stigma that the English are so polite and highly educated turned out to be a complete myth and I was teaching grade 11 students their math times tables every day. Even though the teaching was an awful experience I decided to make use of my time over there and travelled to over 25 countries throughout Europe during my year over there.Naturally I got the travel bug and spent the next year teaching in Tanzania, Africa at an orphanage. A very cool and humbling experience. I then returned home back to Elgin (still no returning hero ceremony…) and have been teaching here for the last 5 years. I now teach Planning and Sports Performance while coaching as much rugby as I can.
