My practicum was at Esquimalt High school with P.E. & Social Studies as my teachable subjects but I was a keener and the administration allowed me to instruct a English-Language-Learners course, (Formally E.S.L.). After graduating in 2017, the Greater Victoria School district hired me. I was thrown in as a Teacher-Teaching-on-Call and I was instantly overwhelmed with all the opportunities available. It is a great time to be an educator!

Having T.T.O.C. for almost two years, I have taught at least one block of every grade within SD61 from kindergarten to grade 12. Highlights include a 10 week stint as the “chef” in a culinary arts program. Another highlight includes taking a group of students on a 3 day long-weekend surf trip to Tofino. There has been plenty of bumps along the road to becoming a full-fledged teacher but I do believe that this is a calling and you have to follow it. As of January 2019, I took up a temporary contract for two blocks of Home Economics at Esquimalt High school. Best of luck with everything and keep trying!
