After graduating in 2014 I was offered a full time temporary contract in Fort St. John (SD #60) teaching PE and Health in one of the middle schools. Never having been so far north, I was a bit nervous and the thought, “what am I doing” crossed my mind many times! But, after being up here for a while, I’ve fallen in love with not only the school but also the town. The opportunities for outdoor activities for PE and personal adventures is endless! I have been rehired with a continuing contract with the school district and am really excited to continue my career here!
Update on me. I ended up accepting a Vice Principal position at an elementary school in Fort St. John in 2019 and am now in my second year in administration. Such a different world, but such a rewarding one. I feel like my skills, experiences at UVic set me in the right direction to enter into admin so quickly. 2019 was quite the year to take such a job, but nothing like jumping right in with both feet! Just have to keep my head above water!
