After finishing my practicum at Oak Bay, I TOC’ed throughout SD61 until the school year ended. In August I was given a temp contract at Oak Bay to start the school year on a 1.0 FTE!!! However, it wasn’t meant to be, as I was bumped from that position after the last round of postings in September. It was bittersweet though, because I had also applied else where for a position. I ended up getting a position teaching photography and business education on a .57 at Esquimalt Secondary. Esquimalt has become my home. I love this school so much and I am so glad I applied for this posting; although, photography and business education were not my “teaching areas” they are now apart of my English and PE repertoire.
I feel very blessed to be apart of this school for many reasons. Despite starting on a .57 FTE my admin topped me up with an English block and after school PE block; therefore, I have been a 1.0 FTE throughout semester two. I am coaching the golf team here at ESQ and my team is off to provincials next week, in Nanaimo. I am hoping to continue to stay at Esquimalt for many years to come.
