The AWC hosts an annual event for members to meet in a casual environment. Traditionally, there has been a Welcome Wine & Cheese Reception, usually in the Fireside Lounge at the University Club. This reception provides an opportunity for AWC women from all areas on campus to mingle, meet each other, and solidify connections with colleagues from across the University. The Vice-President Academic & Provost, the Director, Academic Leadership Initiatives & Diversity Adviser, Office of the Provost, the Director, Equity and Human Rights, and other leaders on campus in positions relating to equity are typically invited.

In 2016, the steering committee suggested a new tradition of meeting off campus at UVic-affiliated Swan’s Brewpub and to change it to an evening event in January: AWC Night Out was born! Gathering off site and in an evening provided a break especially for AWC members who had children who wanted a “night out” with their colleagues in a private room at a wonderful brewpub.
