Monique Grenier is attending the Open Science Retreat on the North Sea in Schoorl, The Netherlands. The week-long unconference style retreat brings together scholars from various disciplines to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices related to open science. The conference bolsters Grenier’s efforts to foster enthusiasm for establishing an Open Science Community, which uses community-driven and socially impactful infrastructure, at UVic.

It is essential for UVic to embrace open science, also referred to as open scholarship in North America, as these responsible academic practices foster collaboration, accelerate innovation, and ensure equitable access to publicly funded research. Moreover, UVic should aim to match leaders in academic research who have already undergone the cultural shift towards open science, as these practices align with global sustainability goals. – Monique Grenier
