Research Team Members

Dr. Claudia Lai

Claudia is a clinician researcher with over 15 years of policy and research experience. Her research builds on her extensive professional experience from all levels of the health system (including home and community care, government, provider organizations, hospital, and academic settings). Together with community partners, she seeks to explore how individuals with lived experiences, caregivers and interdisciplinary health and social care providers can inform a more equitable health system.

Mary Catherine Williams

Mary Catherine brings over 35 years of experience working in the social sector with children, families, older adults and communities to promote well-being, safety and success. She has collaborated in across community sectors and developed curriculum with a focus on health and wellbeing for people across the life span. She has held leadership positions in the social sector and has regional and national experience in reconciliation and equity initiatives. She holds a B.A in Political Science from University of Calgary and a Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education from Capilano University.

Austin Bye

Austin is a Registered Nurse and a current Graduate Student at the University of Victoria obtaining his Masters of Nursing and Masters of Health Information Science with a research focus on Digital Health Technologies. He has had the opportunity to work across the health sector in community care and acute care with experience in technology implementation and evaluation.

Dorota Guzek

Dorota completed a Master of Science in International Health degree from Heidelberg University, Germany with a research focus on evaluation of e-learning for medical education in low- and middle-income countries. Her current graduate research in Social Dimensions of Health at University of Victoria focuses on digital mental health for refugee youth. She is also a Registered Nurse with a graduate certificate in health terminology standards. 

Sashi Siriratne

Sashi is a fourth-year Health Information Science student at the University of Victoria. She has completed co-ops working in digital health and project analysis, gaining experience in academic writing, data analysis, and system implementation. Sahsi also has experience in creating Visio workflows, and developing user guides for new products.

Kale Kasdorf

Kale is a fourth-year undergraduate student at the University of Victoria, working towards a combined degree in Computer Science and Health Information Science. Kale has experience working on systems and applications both independently and collaboratively. Through coursework and co-op experiences, he has developed practical skills in reviewing documents, summarizing data and supporting team-based research and evaluation efforts. He has previous experience in various system implementations across hospitals on Vancouver Island.
