0. Appointment of minute taker<\/b>: John Foxgord<\/span><\/p>\n \n 1. Approval of the agenda<\/b><\/span>: as amended MSC Foxgord\/Hall<\/p>\n \n 2. Approval of the minutes: <\/b>of Jan 9th 2004 (John H.)<\/p>\n as amended MSC Hall\/MacNeil<\/p>\n \n 3. Urgent Business:<\/b><\/p>\n \n 3.1 Convention Resolutions<\/p>\n \n Resolutions for the 2004 PEA Convention were discussed and voted upon.<\/p>\n \n Resolution 1.<\/p>\n \n Be it resolved that the PEA join the BC Federation of Labour.<\/i><\/p>\n \n Submit Resolution 1. as a resolution to the 2004 PEA Convention<\/p>\n MSC Hall\/MacNeil<\/p>\n \n Resolution 2.<\/p>\n \n Whereas the current BC Liberal government has decided to no longer recognize<\/i><\/p>\n workers contributions by implementing a policy of no wage gains for workers<\/i><\/p>\n over the next three years; and<\/i><\/p>\n \n Whereas this oppressive policy of zero, zero and zero translates into at least a 10<\/i><\/p>\n per cent financial reduction in workers standard of living;<\/i><\/p>\n \n Be it resolved that the PEA is calling on the current BC provincial government to<\/i><\/p>\n re-evaluate the contribution of workers and rescind its oppressive zero, zero and<\/i><\/p>\n zero policy to permit workers to negotiate fair compensation for their labour.<\/i><\/p>\n \n \n Submit Resolution 2. as a resolution to the 2004 PEA Convention<\/p>\n MSC Klatt\/MacNeil<\/p>\n \n \n Resolution 3.<\/p>\n \n \n WHEREAS the age demographic of PEA members is such that few of the<\/i><\/p>\n executive and committee positions are held by younger members, and<\/i><\/p>\n \n WHEREAS there will be a large number of PEA members retiring over the next<\/i><\/p>\n ten years,<\/i><\/p>\n \n BE IT RESOLVED that programs be developed to provide opportunities for<\/i><\/p>\n younger members of the PEA to learn about unionism and to become actively<\/i><\/p>\n involved in the organization.<\/i><\/p>\n \n \n Submit Resolution 3. as a resolution to the 2004 PEA Convention<\/p>\n MSC MacNeil\/Connor<\/p>\n \n \n Resolution 4.<\/p>\n \n Be it resolved that the PEA Scholarship policy be changed to allow members who<\/i><\/p>\n are part time students.<\/i><\/p>\n \n Submit Resolution 3. as a resolution to the 2004 PEA Convention<\/p>\n MSC MacNeil\/Foxgord<\/p>\n \n \n 4. Chair’s Remarks and Correspondence: (<\/b>NTR)<\/span><\/p>\n \n 5. Reports<\/b><\/p>\n \n 51 Treasurer<\/b> (Vincent)<\/span><\/p>\n \n Current EASY balance: $992, Bank Balance at end of Feb: $2075<\/p>\n Chapter allocation request will be made in April or May.<\/p>\n \n 52 Staff Officer<\/b> (Tony)<\/span><\/p>\n \n Tony reported on the new Human Resources website for Professional Development.<\/p>\n Planning the timeline for bargaining has begun.<\/p>\n \n 53 Chapter Committees<\/b><\/p>\n \n 531 Local Representatives (Tom)<\/p>\n \n The Mar 4th LR meeting was well attended. Tony gave a presentation on<\/p>\n bargaining. Tony also spoke on the upcoming annual PEA convention.<\/p>\n \n 532 Seminars (Bert A.)<\/p>\n Bert is considering ways to get more people out to the seminars.<\/p>\n Bert is looking for a couple new committee members.<\/p>\n \n 533 Appointments (John) (NTR)<\/p>\n \n \n 54 Elections Committee<\/b><\/p>\n \n 541 Convention Delegates<\/p>\n \n The UVic Chapter has not yet assembled a full slate of delegates.<\/p>\n Strategies for acquiring more delegates were discussed.<\/p>\n \n 55 Joint Committees<\/b><\/p>\n \n 551 Association\/University Committee (NTR)<\/p>\n \n Last meeting was Mon Mar 8th. Topic of discussion:<\/p>\n 1. Professional Development<\/p>\n 2. Bargaining – UVic\/PEA committee members to be determined..<\/p>\n \n 552 Benefits Committee (NTR)<\/p>\n \n 553 Job Evaluation Committee (Tony)<\/p>\n \n JEQs are flowing in.<\/p>\n A few complaints have been received on the March 31st final deadline for<\/p>\n JEQ submissions.<\/p>\n \n 554 Performance Evaluation Committee (NTR)<\/p>\n \n 555 Equity Working Group<\/p>\n \n Cindy Player has accepted the position as Director of Human Rights and<\/p>\n Co-Director of the Office of Equity and Human Rights at the<\/p>\n University of Victoria.<\/p>\n \n 556 Discrimination & Harassment Working Group (Sheryl) (NTR)<\/p>\n \n 557 Professional Development Committee (Maggie) (NTR)<\/p>\n \n \n 56 External Committee<\/b><\/p>\n \n 561 Association Executive (Morag) (NTR)<\/p>\n Next meeting is Monday Apr 5th<\/sup> <\/span>12:00<\/p>\n \n 6. LR Meeting on Mar 4th – DONE;<\/p>\n 2. Bargaining Seminars – scheduled for Mar 16th<\/sup><\/span>;<\/p>\n 3. Bargaining Questionnaire – being developed;<\/p>\n 4. Bargaining Committee – looking for interested members;<\/p>\n 5. Convention Resolutions – DONE; and<\/p>\n 6. Finalize 2004 Budget – DONE.<\/p>\n \n This will be removed from future agendas.<\/p>\n \n 8. Adjournment<\/b>.
