PEA UVic Chapter Executive Meeting Minutes

Present: Sheryl Karras, Melissa Doyle, Chris Clausen, Ori Granot, Dave Sanderson, Mike Cave, Vincent Connor, Sam Montgomery (LRO)

Absent: Kristen Ficke

1. Appointment of minute taker: Dave Sanderson
2. Motion to approve the agenda: Motion (VC), seconded (CC) and carried.
3. Approve minutes:

31 Motion to Approve Minutes for 9 April 2016 (Melissa Doyle): Motion (VC), seconded (DS) and carried.

4. Labour Relations Officer (Montgomery):

Several in progress items included a layoff and restructuring. One downgrade position resulting from restructuring is looking into their right to the new position or right to layoff. One in progress complaint against a group of PEA members. One resolved HR complaint

A new position has been posted as management excluded. Similar positions are included under the GLP.

We have been invited to help with the new Sexual Assault Policies Committee.

There have been a number of enquiries from members regarding Central Pro-D application and eligibility.

5. Current Business or otherwise to be assigned:

51 Chapter Executive Retreat- Tentatively to be held on the 23^rd. Sam will confirm the board room availability. The agenda will be put together in the morning of the retreat and include looking at the accomplishments from the last retreat. Jackie Larkin has some training material available if we are interested..

52 Summer Pond Party – To be held on June 29^th from 4:30-7:00. We will not be having a pianist this year based on member feedback. Door prizes and water bottles will be handed out at the event. Brett will be sending out an email in the immediate future and in the week leading up to the event to remind our members.

53 BC Fed Vote – The general PEA membership will have a chance to vote on our ongoing affiliation with the |BC Fed and CLC. Voting Ends on the 20^th of May

54 Association Executive – Have been looking into the role of the president. It has been recognized that the current responsibilities are too much for the position. There has been discussion of this becoming a paid , full time position or farming off the responsibilities to other executive members. There will be a motion and direction chosen during the next Association Executive meeting on May 30^th.

55 New Employee Orientation – Mike Cave and Vincent Connor have agreed to attend this orientation as representatives of the UVic PEA. They will present material pertaining to our collective agreement and answer questions as they arise.

56 Website Committee – Minutes are not being uploaded to the site in a timely manner. Chris Clausen will follow up with the minute takers to ensure that this happens.

 

6. Report

61 Treasurer (Sanderson):

FAST account balance is $7169.36 and Coast Capital balance is $6820.40. This is after depositing the annual grant from head office in the amount of $11, 438.58 and writing a top up cheque for the FAST account in the amount of $5000.00

63 Joint Committees

631 Association/University Committee (Karras/Sanderson): We will be bringing up the Childcare Committee  Membership at the next meeting.

635 Educational Equity Advisory Group (Doyle): Melissa will be stepping down from this committee. The appointments Committee will put out a call for expression of interest to the general membership.
