211 Website: We held a meeting on June 24th , attended by Chris Clausen, Mark van Hoek, Kristen Ficke, John Foxgord, Vincent Connor and Dave Sanderson. Chris and Mark demonstrated how to do the basics of posting meeting minutes and also went over some of the other aspects of WordPress. A decision was made that it would be the responsibility of future Executive meeting minute-takers to post minutes to the website once approved. If they are not confident in doing this themselves they can delegate to another member. Dave Sanderson was appointed as a new member of the committee.
212 Seminars: We will be holding another Get to Know Your Collective Agreement seminar on July 7th between 12-1, pizza lunch will be provided. This round, members of the executive will research and speak on specific area of the CA, with member questions helping to drive the conversation. Melissa will fill in where needed. Areas will be as follows:
Dave Sanderson: Progression and Performance adjustments, Wage Increases
Kristen Ficke: Issues pertaining to Term Employees.
John Foxgord: CTO and Leave
Vincent Connor: Sections 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 , 19
22 Joint Committees
221 Benefits Committee: In regards to the surplus in our dental funds, the University will reach out to the provider to see if our coverage could be enhanced. There is concern that it may be too late for that and the members will likely be paying a little less for dental coverage come July 1st . In the future we may look into reimbursement vs Enhanced benefits. The question was raised that if we run into the situation where we have a surplus in one area and a deficit in the other, can we use the funds to even this out. Ori will look into the year over year trend of our deficits and surpluses in dental and medical funding. At this point there are proposed rate changes which will be adjusted yearly as needed.
222 Solidarity Committee: This committee met on Monday , July 19th This group will try to meet every 2 months to share information between the associations, with the next meeting to be organized by the Student Society.
The Students are working on a ‘GET out to Vote’ plan for advanced polling and we should make our members aware of this. Cupe 951 has a new head, Kara White. Cupe 4163 has a new president, Alex McLeod. The Sessional component of Cupe 4163 has a tentative agreement.
3 Labour Relations Officer (Moroz):
The Chemistry department is going through an org. review , including positions. There is no expectation of layoffs or salary decreases. The issue in that department regarding vacation scheduling has been resolved, with members agreeing to spread there extensive vacation time over a 3 year period.
There have been a few layoffs in the HSD and Corporate and Alumni services departments due to restructuring.
Melissa had a meeting with the management and affected members of Career Services that were affected by a re-class dropping them down a pay grade. She also met with the University to see if such practice would happen again. She was assured that this was a unique and unusual situation.
Melissa received a list of term of employees and plans to go over it with management to determine why and how long they have been term.
4 Urgent Business or to be otherwise assigned:
41 Facebook Group – The public PEA Facebook page has been updated with pictures from the pond party. Members should feel free to have a look and tag their friends
42 Telephone Survey – The PEA telephone survey has completed about 300 calls at the time of this meeting. There had been some issues with members questioning the legitimacy of the call, the professionalism of the survey company and the nature of some of the questions. Once completed the results from the survey will be distributed, but we are not sure at what level. Melissa M. will look at getting chapter specific information.
