  1. Labour Relations Officer (Montgomery):

– LSS Tentative Agreement and FMA Bargaining

– PEA working with BC Fed to lobby government on a wage redress campaign

– Campus Solidarity Meeting

– Union Jurisdictional Solidarity (ie. Anti-raiding)

– Need for more transparency from the University on Board Appointments

-University votes on appointments Feb. 25th– March 2nd

– Going forward as a more strategic approaches

– Fair Employment Week (October 2020)

– Recruitment and Retention Campaign

– Met with Gayle Gorril on Jan. 13th and requested meeting with the Provost

– Job Evaluation Committee received 23 JEQ applications in 2019; anticipate even more in 2020

-10 were for technical positions on campus

– Katy and I are preparing a seminar and workshop on Job Evaluation in March/April

– Member survey results speak to morale issues In University Systems and beyond

Action Item: Ask local reps to collect member stories relating to challenges

– Bullying, Harassment, and Discrimination Cases discussed

– Over 9 ongoing cases and many member inquiries

Action Item: Schedule a seminar in April

Action Item: Follow up with EQHR about the PEA sitting on the Equity and Human Rights University Committees

  • Concerns over paid sick leave and medical accommodation policies
  • Members with recurring illnesses running out of paid leave
  • Members having their LTD claims denied
  • Members having their accommodation requests denied (ie. Working from home as a medical accommodation)
  • Action Item: Raise these concerns at AU and ask for data on sick days/ medical leaves by department
  1. Association Executive (Karras/Chan/Haman): 20 January 2020

– PEA Budget and strategic plan approved

– Financials looking strong

– Positive momentum with Executive over climate goals

– Governance committee will meet and discuss the issues

  1. Current Business or otherwise to be assigned:
    • Engaging members on specific issues that face the UVic community – Divestment? (Tabled to March Meeting)
    • Request for sponsorship ( for information for budget planning for 2020) (Tabled to March Meeting)
    • UVic Recruitment and Retention Campaign – discussion
    • Note – 26 UVic members applied to PEA Education Conference – we have 21 spaces allocated to our chapter (1/50 members)
      • Motion: First come, first serve but put Ori first on the wait list

    • TC 10K Cliff would like offer the following
      • MOTION: I move that the UVic chapter make available $250.00 in funds to offset 50% of the entry fee for up to 10 of our interested members. (Tabled to March Meeting)

71 Treasurer (Duxbury): 2020 draft budget

  • Will submit chapter grant application next week
  • Cannot afford to feed members at every planned event
  • Changed some of the expense categories to reflect practices
  • Action Item: Confirm the dates of the fiscal year and follow up in Slack with modifications
