31 Motion to Approve Minutes for October 9th (minutes on slack)

4 Labour Relations Officer (Montgomery):

• Updates on public sector bargaining in the Province
• Legal Aid, CUPE 441, UNBCFA all striking over wage parity
• Need for a campus union meeting to discuss CUPE bargaining
• Updates on 2 member grievances
• Will draft a member engagement plan on the recruitment and retention strategy

5 Association Executive (Karras/Chan/Haman): 4, 5 November 2019

• Held Strategic Planning session and presented the video
• Recognition that there is additional servicing requirements for the chapter (e.g. communications)
• Conversation about Robert’s Rules vs. Consensus Based Decision-Making

6 Current Business or otherwise to be assigned:

• Welcome to Telka Duxbury
• PEA Chapter meeting schedule for 2020:
  • Second Wednesday of the month from 12-1:30?
    – Telka will confirm her availability
• Appoint new treasurer – arrange for banking signatures
  • Motion to appoint Telka Duxbury
    • Moved: Cliff, Second: Mike. Carried.
  •  Need to arrange banking signatures, Mustard Seed donation, applying for Chapter Grant, etc.
• Appoint new committee reps
  • Cliff is interested in Campus Planning once Sheryl’s term is over next year
  • Mike is interested in taking over Seminars
  • Need UVic representative on PEA Education Committee
• PEA UVic Scholarships 2019 4 – total of $4570
• November 20^th meeting with Executive Director (3-5):
  • Will present challenges and opportunities per the video
  • Motion to appoint Cliff Haman to be interim OHS alternate
    • Moved: Ori, Second: Mike. Carried.
• Long service vacation emails incorrect. Went out to 460+ members. PEA and University will send out email.

• Any way to make the appointments less formal?
• Outreach by chapter executive? Get coffee cards from Vincent
• Have a brief description of the role available to the members to encourage participation?
• Katy & Vincent will work on a local rep guide

• Mike will schedule a Know and Love Your Collective Agreement seminar for the second week in December.
• Will solicit ideas for seminars and plan in calendar.

  • Chris Purse has offered to meet with the new committee members.
  • Motion to approve up to $100 for the committee to have a lunch meeting.

  • Subsequent motion to increase to $150 (via Slack on November 21st)
