Divestment

Monday, January 26 at 7:00 p.m.
Bob Wright Centre, Room B150

Divestment continues to be a hot topic here at UVic. Students at UVic have been pressuring the University to divest from fossil fuel companies since 2013 through a group called Divest UVic, and last year the faculty voted in favour of divesting the pension fund that they share with the PEA from fossil fuels. Recognizing the need for further public debate on this issue, UVic and the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions is set to host a forum on January 26th. The event titled, A Dialogue: Climate change, divestment and society, will bring together panelists from DivestUVic, Suncor Energy, The Vancouver Sun, the Carbon Tracker Initiative, and Beaver Lake Cree Nation to discuss sustainable investment practices and how divestment can address climate change. The event will be held at 7:00 p.m. on January 26 in Room B150 of the Bob Wright Centre.

This discussion will have implications for how PEA members individually and collectively invest their money. Members are encouraged to attend.
