UVic Executive PEA Meeting

3.1 Motion to approve minutes for June 11th 2014  VC/MD carried

4. Labour Relations Officer (Moroz):

Melissa shared information on bargaining.  There are a number of outstanding complex items.

Suggestion made to organize another meeting for the members in the next week or so.  Vincent will check out availability of Cadboro Commons, preferably Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday 12 – 1.  Melissa M will draft notice to members.

Melissa also shared information about some restructuring and layoffs.

5. Urgent Business or to be otherwise assigned: 

5.1 Divestment discussion (guest Matt Greeno)

Matt gave the executive a background on the divestment issue.  He is part of a working group of PEA members interested in looking at divesting pension money from investment in fossil fuels.  Support is building; the Faculty Association has voted in favour of this divestment from fossil fuel investment.  Matt is requesting that Executive approve using UVic PEA website to share information and find out if there is support for PEA requesting divestment.

Moved that the Executive approve moving forward of the divestment initiative.  The objective of this initiative is to post on the PEA.org website the proposed letter to the Pension Trustees and University Foundation.

The plan involves engaging members in information seminars in consideration of a possible vote regarding divestment, similar to that which occurred with the Faculty Association.

Vincent offered to consider the position of UVic Executive Liaison to the divestment working group.  AR/MD all in favour

5.2 Scheduling our annual retreat Bring Forward

5.3 June 26th Pond Party debrief

60 members attended.  Beautiful weather.  Suggestions for next party:  music louder to be heard outside; invite people to come inside before introducing exec and staff.

6.1 Treasurer (Connor):

Coast Cap Account:  $5759.83; received refund of $1112.48 for last bargaining meeting with the members, to be deposited; FAST account $5264.10 soon depleted by the balance for the pond party $3293.00

6.2 Chapter Committees

6.2.1 Local Representatives (Connor): Vincent is in the process of recovering old HFCS cards from local reps to be replaced by new cards for the purpose of meeting with members

6.3.2 Seminars(Karras):  NTR

6.3.3 Appointments (Connor/Dempsey): appointment draft re: website restructuring.  To be sent out by Vincent.

6.4.8 Central ProD (Seager):

Amendments to Central Pro D returned from AU Committee.  Recommendations should go ahead as per Committee. People who have been laid off should still be able to access funds for courses they have taken during notice period and possibly during recall period.  John F will follow up.

6.5 External Committees

6.5.1 Association Executive (Doyle):

Meeting was held on Monday July 7 by teleconference.  Reviewed strategic plan.  PGSD are now in observer status.  ORL is now voting member.  PGSD supporting BCTF and being supported by PEA.  Giving Back program call for nominations will come out in the Fall.
