1. Approval of Agenda

2. Approval of Minutes 
Minutes from the Annual General Meeting of November 14, 1996 and the Annual
General Meeting of October 10, 1997.

3. PEA 1997 Executive Reports
3.1 President's Report

MOTION (Nightingale/Lund) "That the President's Report be accepted as
circulated".  CARRIED

3.2 Treasurer's Report
Chappell reports that PEA office pays for operational expenses and that our
UVic account has charges totaling $76.00.  UVic PEA grant (2% of total fees) was
$2,078.20.  Total expenditures for this fiscal year were $155.17.  Pacific Coast Savings account balance stands at $1,923.81. Report is posted on PEA web page at: https://web.uvic.ca/uvicpea/archives/agm97/tres97.htm

3.3 Secretary's Report

MOTION (McGowan/Little) "That the Secretary's report be accepted as
circulated".CARRIED

3.4 Janice Brown was acknowledged and recognized for her re-election to the
Provincial PEA Executive

4. Committee Reports
4.1  Local Representatives Committee Report - Rosalie Phillips
List distributed by Phillips.  Phillips acknowledges Russ Smith who
replaced by Don Lovell.  Joanne Thomas replaced by Jennifer Margison.
Lance replaced by Bonnie Geddick.  List will be posted on the web site for
reference.
MOTION: (Gore/McGowan)  "That the Local Representatives Committee report be
accepted as circulated". CARRIED

5. Election Committee Report
McGowan thanks his committee (Janice Brown and Ludgard de Decker) and
acknowledges the great assistance of the Peggy Faulds and Carolyn Ward
(PEA office)

MOTION: (McCowan and Brown) "That the report be accepted and the ballots be

6. Election of Election Committee
Darling calls for volunteers to the 1998 Elections Committee. Kim McGowan,
Ludgaard de Decker, Mary O'Rourke volunteer.  Darling notes that Executive
will appoint other members.
MOTION: (Thornton/Smith) "That these members be accepted"  CARRIED

7. Discussion about Job Evaluation
Darling provides background - mandated by collective agreement and
describes general definition of job evaluation.  Darling refers to
inequities in UVic job groups and problems with CUPE job evaluation and
possible problems this endeavor could precipitate.  Darling adds that
problems arise as employees groups anticipate salary increases as a result
of being reclassified.

Darling adds that Janice Brown, Megan Hill and Elaine Doyle on the
committee and that Personnel wants the JE to go ahead.

Many members spoke to the issue and there was a broad discussion of this topic.  

MOTION (McGowan/Margison) "That we move ahead to establish a plan"

MOTION TO AMEND (McGowan/Thornton) "That we continue to explore the
feasibility of establishing a job evaluation plan"  CARRIED

Further discussion ensued.

Darling prepared to call the question and clarified that the motion on the floor is: "That we continue to explore the feasibility of establishing a job evaluation plan".  The motion CARRIED.

8. Other
Pension Plan elections.
  Dick Chappell is running to represent PEA.  Darling encourages members to
vote for Dick.
