What’s new in M365 – Catching Up

It’s been a while, but we’re back! There have been many exciting features launched for M365 in the last two years, and we’re excited to get you up to speed. Here’s some headlines on the biggest changes.

Microsoft Loop

Microsoft Loop is an app that helps teams stay organized and collaborate in new ways. Loop components allow everyone to edit at the same time, no matter which Microsoft 365 app they’re using. You can also create shared workspaces to keep track of projects and ideas. Plus, it connects with other tools to make teamwork even smoother. Try it in Teams! For more information about Loop, check out this Microsoft 365 blog post. When you’re ready to give it a spin, head to loop.cloud.microsoft, find it on microsoft365.com, or in your apps within Teams.

Microsoft Bookings

Microsoft Bookings is a tool that helps you schedule and manage appointments easily. It integrates with Outlook, so you can see your availability and let others book time with you. This makes it simple for clients or colleagues to find a time that works best for everyone. Bookings also sends email and text reminders to reduce no-shows and keep everyone on the same page.

At UVic, we offer Personal Bookings and Shared Bookings. Personal Bookings lets you manage your own time slots and share your availability with others. You could use this for office hours or consultations, for example. Shared Bookings is for teams, allowing multiple staff members to be booked for appointments. Check out the UVic Bookings Help Centre page for more information or to get set up.

NEW Outlook

Soon to be launching: New Outlook! Likely you’ve already noticed this one installed on your UVic computer. You might be curious what it’s all about.

New Outlook has a sleek, modern design with a simplified interface, making it easier to use. It offers faster performance and better integration with Microsoft 365. It has improved collaboration features, like quick meeting scheduling, and settable work hours and location. For a handy chart of the new features available, check out this Microsoft support page.

Although it’s technically already available in our environment, we will continue to recommend Classic Outlook for now. We will officially move to New Outlook after our transition away from Role-Based Email accounts is complete. These accounts are not supported in New Outlook.

Those are the big headlines for Microsoft 365 right now. Stay tuned for more regular updates on this blog featuring the latest information on Microsoft 365 at UVic. Thanks for reading!
